COLLEEN SWEENEY joined Stewart, Estes & Donnell as an associate in 2006. Prior to joining Stewart, Estes & Donnell, she worked as a Staff Attorney for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. Colleen's practice includes representing both plaintiffs and defendants. On the plaintiff's side, Colleen focuses on employment discrimination, retaliation and ERISA issues. On the defense side, Colleen has successfully defended governmental entities in excessive force claims, various section 1983 civil rights claims and governmental tort liability cases in both state and federal court. She has also participated in various matters involving product liability defense, business / commercial litigation, and trust / estate law. Colleen received her J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law in May of 2005, where she was a member of the Philip P. Jessup International Law Moot Court team in 2003 and 2004. Colleen received the prestigious American Jurisprudence Award in Oil & Gas Law and served as a Research Assistant to Professor John M. Czarnetzky. She was awarded the Mississippi Bar Litigation and General Practice Scholarship for her outstanding performance in trial practice. Colleen completed a prosecutorial externship as a legal intern at the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Mississippi and was sworn in under the Limited Student Act. Colleen attended the University of Texas, where she received a M.Ed. in Sport Science and Nutrition in 2002. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology in 1999. While at Georgia, Colleen was a member of Pi Beta Phi, and is an active member of the Nashville Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club.
